Local PR & Advertising Firm Recognized in Highest Honor for Electric Cooperative Communication

BOONE & ASHEVILLE, NC, (May 8, 2018) — Local public relations and advertising firm G&T Communications, Inc. was recently named in a national award for its work with Blue Ridge Energy, an energy utility serving more than 74,000 homes and businesses in North Carolina. Blue Ridge was named the recipient of the Edgar F. Chesnutt award — the most prestigious honor within the electric cooperative industry for Best Total Communication Program.

“We helped Blue Ridge Energy shine during the introduction and promotion of its Community Solar effort,” said Maggie Tilley, APR, CCC, president of G&T Communications. “The campaign used a variety of methods to communicate how community solar works, and the benefits of participating. The goal was to promote subscriptions to the cooperative’s four community solar gardens,” she explained.

The goal was for all of Blue Ridge Energy’s solar gardens to be fully subscribed by the end of 2017. The goal was met within 10 months.
Work began on the campaign in 2016. Strategic planning, creative development, and communication through a variety of print and digital communication materials helped inform potential participants.

The annual Spotlight on Excellence awards program, of which the Chesnutt award is a part, celebrates its 30th year. It recognizes the top-rated communication and marketing efforts by electric cooperatives and related organizations. Judges came from accredited schools of journalism, as well as practicing communications, marketing and graphic design professionals.

A special event honored the award recipients during the CONNECT 2018 Conference held in Salt Lake City on May 8. Winning entries were displayed during the event.
